Supported use
- Windows desktop or laptop PC with a 64-bit x64 processor. This release was tested on Windows 11.
- A current desktop browser to display the local Studio interface; Edge and Chrome were tested.
- Administrator permission to install to Program Files. Run the installed application from your normal Windows session.
- Sufficient memory and free storage for local transcription, copied source videos and rendered exports. Larger and longer videos require more resources; no universal minimum or processing time has been benchmarked.
Included components
The installer includes the private runtime, transcription engine, multilingual base model and media tools. No developer tools, separate model download, GPU, cloud subscription or app account is required for the normal captioning workflow. Internet access is needed to purchase and download the installer.
Input and output
Import MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, M4V and AVI files up to 8 GB per import. Container support does not guarantee every possible codec or damaged file can be decoded. Export captioned MP4, styled ASS or plain-text SRT. Portrait export uses 1080 × 1920; landscape export uses 1920 × 1080. Match source preserves displayed dimensions.
Not supported
LocalCaptions is not a mobile app. macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, iPadOS, tablets and native ARM builds are not supported. Compatibility through emulation or virtualization is not guaranteed.
Installation and accuracy
The standalone installer is currently unsigned, so Windows may display an unknown-publisher notice. Do not disable security protections. Automatic captions and estimated word timing require review. Preview the rendered output before publishing.
