1. Import a working copy
Open LocalCaptions from Start and choose Import video. The application copies the original into project storage, so editing captions does not rewrite the source. Leave enough disk space for that copy and your exports.
2. Check your canvas
Use Match source to preserve the video’s displayed dimensions. Select 9:16 for a portrait canvas or 16:9 for landscape. If the source has a different shape, it fits with padding rather than being cropped.
3. Generate and review
Choose Transcribe and allow the CPU to finish. The included multilingual model works locally. Listen while reviewing the words: names, background music and overlapping speakers can produce mistakes. Correct the text and timing, split crowded segments and merge fragments where appropriate.
4. Style for readability
Start with a preset, then adjust its font, size, outline, background and placement. Check contrast over bright and dark frames. Avoid placing captions over faces or essential on-screen text. Select Check rendered frame to inspect the actual output at the playhead; the live browser preview is approximate.
5. Export and watch the result
Choose MP4 for a video with visible captions, ASS for styled subtitles, or SRT for text and timing. Watch the exported file before publishing. Keep a secure copy of both original footage and finished work.
